  Bed and Breakfast Accommodation

Two bedrooms are available with tea and coffee making facilities in each. A radio/alarm clock is also available. Please note that we do not provide televisions in the bedrooms. A hairdryer and/or iron and ironing board can be requested. The rooms and the stairs and landings are carpeted. There are no animals in the house and we do not allow pets. Good quality hypo-allergenic toiletries (Simple range) are provided in the bathrooms. A sample of locally produced Wild Planet natural handmade soap is provided and other products from their range of bathing products is available for purchase. Duvets and pillows are also hypo-allergenic. Plenty of towels are provided for your comfort. We encourage you hang them up to dry for re-use but will of course replace them with clean ones if asked. We have a no-smoking policy in the house and grounds.

The Buchan RoomView of the Buchan room
Situated at the top of the house this room is reached by a total of ‘Thirty-nine Steps’. The staircases are all wide with a good width of tread and hand rails but we do ask you to consider this when booking. Twin beds and an en-suite shower room make this a very comfortable room. A sitting area on the landing is a pleasant place to plan the following days activities. We are happy to accept single occupancy of this room.

The Austen Room View of the Austen Room
Feeling we should stick to a theme and knowing that Jane Austen had connections with East Kent, although not specifically with this house, gave this room its name. There are less stairs to climb to reach this room! A super-king size bed is provided in this room. The bathroom is en-suite and there is a shower over the bath. We will only let this room for single occupancy after midday on the date requested.

We would like you to arrive between 4.00 and 6.00pm and ask you to inform us if this is not possible. Similarly we ask you to vacate your room by 10.30am when you leave.

Breakfast
View of the Dining Room
Whichever room you choose to stay in your breakfast will be served downstairs in the dining room or, should the weather be warm and sunny, you might choose to eat on the terrace. Breakfast is normally served between 7.30am and 9.00am although we can adjust that if you have a train or ferry to catch. A full english breakfast using locally grown meat and View of the terraceeggs is always available. Should you prefer it we can offer an alternative of local ham and cheese or Scottish smoked salmon and  scrambled eggs. If you have special dietary requirements we can provide that. Just ask.

Access Statement

Glebe Place, our home, is part of an old house and has lots of stairs and steps which give it a lot of character. However we are very sorry but it is totally unsuitable for anyone who cannot manage stairs as there is no lift. Both bedrooms are upstairs. The twin room is not called the Buchan room for nothing (Thirty Nine Steps!).

We have plenty of off-road parking available. Glebe Place is at the far end of the building and we do ask you to park beyond the telegraph pole and not to disturb our neighbours, who live in Glebe House.

Our normal policy is not to take children under 12years. We have stairs (with no stair gates), fire doors (which can close and trap fingers), high windows and a Peace and Quiet policy!

On the day of your arrival we ask you to arrive late afternoon. Afternoon Tea time is between 4.00 and 5.30pm when tea and home made cakes or scones will be offered to you. If you are going to arrive later than that an ETA is helpful. On the day of your departure we ask you to clear your room by 10.30am to facilitate cleaning. We can look after your luggage for you to collect later in the day if necessary.

We are sorry but we cannot take card payments, only cash or cheques drawn on a sterling account. We can accept euros. The nearest ATM is just 3 miles away at Tesco’s store.

During your stay we expect you will be very busy in the day time visiting the many places of interest around us giving us time to shop and clean your room. We will give you a choice of full English or continental breakfast using as much local produce as possible, sometimes organic and for items that cannot be produced in this country, such as tea and coffee, it will be ‘Fair Trade’. Cyclists and walkers are very welcome and we are happy to discuss your requirements using either ‘phone or e-mail. Have you considered walking part of the North Downs Way over several days? We could arrange transport to take you to the start and collect you from the finish of your walk each day. Detling to Dover would be possible from here. Romney Marsh provides a network of roads suitable for cyclists and we have maps and suggestions for both walks and rides.

The whole of our premises, both inside and out, is a NO SMOKING ZONE, for the comfort of other guests, our neighbours and ourselves.
